History Speaks Lecture Series
An Old-Fashioned Christmas: Tinsel, Gingerbread Men and Raggedy Ann
Sunday, December 10
Author Rochelle Pennington presents this fun filled program based on her publication "An Old-Fashioned Christmas" which captures the spirit of the bygone holidays between 1930 and 1960. In addition to a power-point presentation which includes vintage photos and images, Pennington brings along items from her antique toy collection, as well as other antiques pertaining to Christmas. A few of the additional items include an original Bing Crosby “White Christmas” album, cookie cutters, aprons, vintage Christmas cookbooks, Christmas cards, tinsel, angel hair, ornaments, and bubble lights. Pennington’s programs in Illinois will highlight toys manufactured in that state including the sock monkey (Rockford), Tinkertoys (Evanston), and Lincoln Logs (Chicago). She will detail historic trivia as well.
Please note the program is being held in the Meeting House.
