The Village That Volunteers Built

LOG HOUSE

Log House

This hand hewn log home, originally located in Jonesboro, near the Mississippi River in Southern Illinois, is representative of the first homes built by the Naperville pioneers and is the only building on the site which is not of Naperville origin. The individual logs were carefully numbered and then entirely dismantled for shipment to Naperville by truck. Quarry stone from the local quarry was used to construct the chimney. Reconstruction in 1978 at Naper Settlement was a volunteer effort. Appreciation is extended to the intrepid volunteers who blazed a new path by preserving the old to tell our town's earliest stories.
