Martin Mitchell Mansion - 1883

This Victorian home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has undergone extensive restoration to bring it back to its former grandeur. George Martin, a Scottish immigrant, built this home for his family. The Martins achieved their success by using the area's natural resources. Clay and limestone were made into bricks, tiles and stone blocks for use in local buildings as well as structures in Chicago after the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
