Watch historical demonstrations, make crafts, and learn about history at our on-site activities from May through October. These activities are included in general museum admission at Naper Settlement. Please see the schedule below for the dates and times of this month's activities. Adventures Into the Past - Tuesdays in May 

Blast back in history with Adventures Into the Past at Naper Settlement! Each month there will be a different theme with crafts, activities, and demonstrations pertaining to the theme.  On Tuesdays in May, explore life on the frontier and interact with a French fur trader. Come see examples of the fur trade, practice bartering, watch demonstrations of survival skills, and learn about some of the most important animals on the Illinois prairie.

May 17

  • Furs 101
    • Time: 10:30AM, 11AM, 1PM
  • Trading Post Activities: Stop by the Playscape Trading Post for fun educational activities.
    • Time: 11AM-12PM and 2-3PM

May 24

  • Furs 101
    • Time: 10:30AM, 11AM, 1PM
  • Chapel Tour: Tour the Century Memorial Chapel and learn the history of the first building moved to Naper Settlement. Guests will end the tour listening to musical selections played on one of the Chapel organs.
    • Time: 12:30-4PM

May 31

  • Furs 101
    • Time: 10:30AM, 11AM, 1PM
  • Survival Skills: Flint and Steel: Learn how fire is made using flint and steel.
    • Time: 11AM and 2PM
  • Trading Post Activities: Stop by the Playscape Trading Post for fun educational activities.
    • Time: 11AM-12PM and 2-3PM


Wednesdays in May 2022

May 18 & 25

  • Yarn Dolls: We’ll demonstrate how children made their own toys with the resources they had available. Guests can also create their own yarn doll.
    • Time: 11AM-12PM and 2-3PM

  • Calligraphy Basics: Using a calling card, guests will learn calligraphy basics and practice writing their names.
    • Time: 11AM-12PM and 2-3PM

May 27

  • Calligraphy Basics: Using a calling card, guests will learn calligraphy basics and practice writing their names.

  • Wax and Seal: We’ll demonstrate how people sealed letters with wax in the 1830s. Guests can stamp a seal to take home.
    • Time: 11AM-12PM and 2-3PM
