HERstory-Shannon-Simonovich

"Dr. Shannon Simonovich is a health disparities researcher, food systems advocate, and local mom to three small children. Her background as a nurse taught her how much nutrition and access to healthy foods impacts the health of childbearing women and children. Now in her role, both as faculty at DePaul University School of Nursing, and expert advisor to the Food Security Council of DuPage County alongside Jane Macdonald, head of Community Health from Loaves and Fishes, she is committed to eliminating nutrition disparities for experienced by local families.

Dr.
Simonovich’s research and teaching encourages systems-level change from top down and the ground up to mobilize researcher, policy makers, local stakeholders, and general public to think of access to healthy food as a human right, not a privilege. As a social justice-oriented scientist, she committed to mobilizing leaders across our county, state, and nation to end hunger here in the USA and improve the food system for generations to come."
