HERstory Nomination Bettye Weber-Wehrli

"I came to Naperville in 1966 as a young widow with three small sons. I wanted to establish a permanent home near my relatives. After a short while, I met Mr. Jim Wehrli and we were married in 1969. That was the year that the Chapel was acquired and moved as our first building. We were involved in all parts of the Settlement and I served on the first Settlement Board. We were active in the 1981 Sesquicentennial also. I was the chairman of the first Auction for Little Friends School, which was in dire financial stress. I was also involved with Jim in the renovation of downtown Naperville, and the complete overhaul of the riverwalk. I have served on many boards, Sister Cities, Exchange Club, the first renovation of Central Park, the Naperville Library Board during the construction of the 95th Street building, have been a tutor in District 204 schools for 30 years, was employed at Neuqua Valley High School as Community Liaison during the early days of the school, charter member of the Century Walk Board, and on other boards. I created and funded opportunities for 14 students at Washington Junior in memory of my son who was a science teacher, and his father who worked on the Saturn Five that sent men to the moon."
